Wasilla, Willow and Palmer

Sunday we explored the towns north of Anchorage. We didn’t see any Palins, but then, we didn’t see any other “wild life” either – LOL! Wasilla was a good sized town with a Wal Mart, Fred Meyer and your usual fast food places. We visited the Iditerod Trail in Wasilla, I am really loving learning about the Iditerod. I never paid much attention to it until now. One thing I have noticed is that the dogs definitely are not pets or “people” dogs. They really could care less about people. Even the pups are not the friendly run up to you and play kind of puppies that we are all used to. These dogs are aloof and very focused on the work that they are bred to do.

The town of Willow was pretty rural. We stopped at an Arts & Crafts fair there that was very small and we really felt (and looked) like we didn’t belong. Palmer is the home of the Musk Ox farm…. Now I know that you are all jealous that I got to visit the Musk Ox farm and it did live up to it’s reputation! We also stopped at Wolf Country USA – OMG it was a very scary place, we didn’t hang around there long. The owners were definitely people from the back counrty of Alaska.

Sunday evening we had our first taste of FRESH salmon and Halibut. We ate at Simon & Siefferts in Anchorage. Very nice and the food was awesome right down to the margaritas and Alaska berry cobler! After dinner we walked 5th Ave shopped in a few more “junk” gift stores and then called it a night.

Tomorrow?  On to Seward and more adventures.....
